Sierra Leone Foreign Ministry has said it had signed an agreement on the status of the recently created UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER). The signing agreement was done by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Samura Kamara, on the government side, and Ms Bintou Keita, from the office of the UN Ebola crisis management on Saturday. The agreement, Minister Kamara said, include local content policy, vis-à -vis recruitment of Sierra Leoneans into positions and allocations of business opportunities in the operations of the UN mission in the country. “Sierra Leone has a very good reservoir of local business people experienced in working with the UN,” the minister said. Ms Keita, for her part, said they were looking forward to working with the government. UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon earlier in the week announced the appointment of a US-based Sierra Leonean to be the first head the Ebola crisis management team in Sierra Leone. Similar appointments were done for Liberia and Guinea, which are also battling the epidemic that has claimed over 4000 lives in the region.
