Sigh. America is still pursuing the geopolitical objectives enunciated - but not originated - by Zbigniew Brzezinski: strive for global hegemony by dominating Eurasia; dominate Eurasia by controlling those states that can be controlled, by preventing adverse alliances of Eurasian states, and by ensuring that natural resources are controlled by ones own multinationals, or by those of allies. Therefore, in the American perspective, Russia is to be forbidden a sphere of interest, if at all possible; Russian alliances are to be undermined whenever possible, and by whatever means necessary (hence our attempts to woo the sanguinary despots of Uzbekistan, etc.); and Russian natural resources are to be parceled out amongst Western multinationals (hence the outrage that Russia abrogated the inequitable arrangements that prevailed under Yeltsin). /Foreign policy sermon.
