Sign up: I remember the day as if it were today, when I proudly signed on the dotted line my allegiance to The United States of America. I was 18, I was on a military base in Minot, North Dakota. The Viet Nam War was raging and folks that I knew were dying, being maimed, or having unspeakable terrors visited on them mentally. I had been recruited by a man whose family and he attended a Bible College in Canada. I attended the high school there having been sent to the school because of family needs at the time. The gentleman who took me for a walk on the schools runway (it had been a training base for pilots in WW2) and explained to me a career that was waiting for young men like myself who would be called on at some point in time for service. It was a great pitch based on patriotism, a little ego massaging, and a challenge that had my head snapping up. It was such a surprise to be spoken to about options for government service. I can appreciate Tosh Plumlee and his openness, which I cannot participate in to the same degree. I salute those who give their lives in service to the nation that they love. It has been my honor to serve as called upon. Now it is up to me to continue service in a new and different form. No longer answerable to a higher authority, other than God himself. I have determined to sign up for the new duty with the same aims and objectives and loyalties as before. The enemy of the nation is my enemy, domestic or foreign. The friend and ally of the nation is my friend and ally. I dont want to be accused of taking Scripture out of context but the words fit many an occasion. Chose you this day whom you will serve. I chose the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the country founded on His principles, The United States of America. Here I Stand. - Dr. Jim Garrow -
