Signing petitions sometimes helps. Not often, but - TopicsExpress

Signing petitions sometimes helps. Not often, but sometimes. And they take a lot of time and effort. So dont waste time on totally unproductive petitions. For example, do not waste you time petitioning the enemy. I was just asked to sign a petition to ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) to let them know exposing animal abuse should not be a crime. Hello? ALEC is the outfit that promotes ag-gag bills across the country. They do not give a shit about animals. In fact, they would love it if animal activists spent their whole time petitioning them! Another stupid waste of time is petitioning foreign governments. The head of some African or Asian government does not care what you think about anything. You dont vote there. You arent a tourist there. You dont count. If you want to get a foreign government to listen to you, get your Congressman or Senator to listen to you. A letter or phone call from a US Senator or Member of Congress can impact a foreign government. A petition of a gazillion email signatures to some foreign head of state is laughable. Petitioning governments generally is a waste of time. Thats why they have elections. Elections are the only petitions that make a difference. Petitioning bureaucrats is also stupid. They answer to legislators who answer to elections. The only petitions that work are ones that can impact business profits or public relations. Primarily public relations. So if you see petitions that want you to spend your time filling out information on anything but impacting business activity, all you are likely doing is building someones email list. And wasting your time. And animals time.
