Sikkim Gorkha Prajatantrik party convened a press conference to express its views on the ongoing agitation for statehood in the Darjeeling hills. SGP president KB Rai said, “The Gorkhaland agitation is in need of a political guardian who can act as a bridge between the centre and the hills. Since Sikkim is historically attached with the Darjeeling hills and where the Gorkha population is in the majority, leaders here should come forward and openly declare support to the movement.” He added several people in Sikkim are in favour of the formation of a separate state of Gorkhaland.
