Similar to how the black activist have gone, the same thing can be said for the black athlete activists. In the era of the 1960s through 1970s black athletes were on the forefront of the civil rights movement. They were in the media speaking on how they felt about the racial tension that was taking place in America. That era is gone, now we live in an era with athletes like Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Robert Griffin III and other superstar athletes. I am a huge fan and I do have the utmost respect for them as far their game. The only question iI have is why is it they don’t speak on issues regarding the community. Times when there’s a social injustice I don’t hear anything from black athletes. It’s like they turned a blind eye or become mute to the situation at hand. One example is the Richie Incognito situation (White man who left a racist voice mail for his own Black teammate), I have yet to hear any current superstar Black athletes speak about the situation lately. Why wont they speak out? Is it because of the money their getting? Do they believe that we live in post-racial America? Thoughts and Opinions are welcomed!
