Simplicity is the key to conquering many challenges in piano - TopicsExpress

Simplicity is the key to conquering many challenges in piano playing. I well remember the advice from concert pianist Jacques Abram when I studied with him in the 1950s: 1. For the next 2 weeks, do nothing but HANDS SEPARATELY practice 2. Set the metronome, then, turn it off, and count pulses aloud 3. Write in every finger you plan to use when you play it at a faster tempo 4. Exaggerate touch and phrasing details 5 . Use ABSOLUTELY NO PEDAL FOR THESE NEXT 2 WEEKS ( if you must, go home and disconnect your pedals from your piano) I always return to this simple clean-up process when refurbishing and/or repairing repertoire.
