Since Barack Obama has more or less completely checked out when it comes to the border crisis, other individuals at both the state and local level are stepping in with a wide range of creative solutions to stop the influx of illegals sneaking into the country. Thousands of illegals have been slowly eating away at the resources of border communities and others around the United States, putting these areas under intense economic strain. In order to stop more illegals from piling into his state, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is deploying National Guard troops to beef up security and to aid Border Patrol agents who have been bogged down with processing duties. This is a solution that members of Congress and governors have been suggesting for quite some time, apparently hopeful that the Commander-in-Chief might actually consider taking action that didn’t some how benefit him politically. Naturally, that didn’t happen, however, according to TheBlaze, Rep. Kerry Bentivolio has a great idea on how to add extra security personnel at the border without overburdening taxpayers. Bentivolio, a Guardsman, suggested allowing the National Guard to host their yearly two-week drills down at the southern border, effectively killing two birds with one stone. The GOP lawmaker discussed rotating groups in and out so that there’s always extra support at the ready. “We could rotate National Guards from state national guard units along the border and secure it for very, very little money,” he said. Rep. Bentivolio also stated that if Congress wasn’t on board with the plan, governors could still take action to implement it. “The governors can authorize it,” he said. “It’s a matter of paperwork and getting the right approvals.” Awesome. This is a great plan that if enacted, would be an effective means of deterring many illegals from crossing the border. Many who serve in the National Guard are seasoned veterans who have the knowledge and skills to provide adequate security and apprehend illegals crossing over. Hopefully, this common sense solution will continue to gain support from those in border states, and the plan can be implemented to help bring the immigration crisis to an end.
