Since I am just getting into this hobby....Ive got a question about decals..... For the past 10 years I have been in miniature war gaming and have avoided decal use at all costs.....I generally just hand painted everything ( to include tattoos and tartan plaid on 15mm miniatures O.o). Now that I am into this hobby I realize I just cannot get an acceptable outcome without decals (Im building my first 4 undecorated box cars). I pretty much have my current cars painted up and ready for Road name and # and all those bits and bobs. So my questions are as follows: Dry transfer or the kind of decal you have to dip in a solution? does it really matter? Are there some applications in which one or the other will absolutely not work? Preferred sources for road name sets? I am doing Chesapeake and Ohio 1937-1945. Another subject: I was curious as to how far you guys go with painting and detail. Like I said Im coming from miniature war gaming and I can recall clocking 10 hours on one 25mm miniature for the paint job... When I was painting tonite I saw all those little details and kinda got carried away....I dont know when to say thats enough detail.
