Since Im sick Ive had a lot of time to think and ponder. Im always concerned about the fine line when using personal experience in preaching of focusing too much on myself and not about God. I have a better perspective now thanks to Nadia Bolz-Weber comments in a South Carolina publication when she made a statement about preaching (and Im paraphrasing) that she preaches from her scars and not her wounds. When asked the difference she explained that when you preach from your scars you preach from past experiences and how God has gotten you through it and its about God, but when you preach from your wounds the experience is fresh and you are still working through it and its about you. Thank you Nadia and I hope to always preach from my scars as well.
