Since Rountree-Moore Ford has chosen to ignore my inquiries... Heres my gripe with them. Had my 2005 Ford Freestyle in on Monday due to it running too hot going to work. Kelly Holcombe took care of checking my car in. I explained to him that it ran fine, other than running too hot. Kelly called back later and tried to explain what the tech found out, but, suggested I talk to the tech personally, so I went to hear what the tech had to say. The tech said that the catalytic converters were clogged, causing the engine to run too hot and forcing coolant out of the recovery bottle. Keep in mind, I said the car RAN FINE, other than running too damn hot! Itll run effortlessly at 70 mph so long as the temps dont get too high. Catalytic converters that are clogged enough to cause the engine to run that hot will prevent the car from going above 25 - 30 MPH! The repair bill, as diagnosed, was going to be around $4,000 - which I could not afford - on a car with a $2,500 market value. When I explained that problem, both Kelly and the tech then said I could trade the car in! RIGHT! So, I talked to Robert E Sizemore about the issue, and how we both felt the diagnosis by Ford was grossly inaccurate, I went for a second opinion. Imagine my surprise when Jims Auto Service looked at my car and determined the thermostat was sticking. Which was causing the over temp problems. It was later determined that the water pump had also failed. Total repair bill was less than $360, since the water pump was only a year old and still under warranty. The trade-in comment by both Ford representatives really pissed me off. Heres what I think was going on - Ford would give me a couple hundred on trade in, fix whats really wrong with the Freestyle, and make a nice profit off of it! I guess Kelly did me a solid by not charging me a diagnostic fee, thanks for that. But the tech either had no clue how to diagnose an overheating problem or thought I was a total moron. Ill never take my car to RTM Ford (or ANY OTHER Rountree-Moore dealer) for service again, nor will I do business with ANY Rountree-Moore dealership - PERIOD! Being either willfully disingenuous or completely inept at your job is no way to go thru life. Ill post a copy of the Ford quote and the actual bill in a few...
