Since departing the Senate in January of 2013, I have been literally crisscrossing the country. My schedule has included, and will include through the end of this year, speaking on college campuses and at conferences in 25 different states and Washington, D.C. – with multiple visits to a number of those states. And invariably, wherever I travel, I’m asked a version of each of these two questions: How did it get so bad in Washington? And what exactly can we – as individuals – do about it? Well, that is why I’m co-chairing the Bipartisan Policy Center’s (BPC) Commission on Political Reform. And on June 24, we will be announcing major, bipartisan recommendations in the areas of electoral reform, congressional reform, and public service – solutions designed to restore Congress to the problem-solving powerhouse it once was.
