Since my first year in UP Diliman I always see this old lady - TopicsExpress

Since my first year in UP Diliman I always see this old lady selling banana-cues, donuts, etc. placed in a bilao which she would carry over her head. I would always see her pass by our college and sometimes sit by the entrance gate just to have a quick rest. Every time I see her I am amazed by her hard work and patience. At her age she should have stop working. The load she is carrying is so heavy and you will see her back shaped almost like a C. It really breaks my heart every time I see old people carry heavy stuff. My mom who is already 67 needs help in carrying her groceries. We would stop what we are doing to lend her a hand. Last October 2012, I was preparing for my last graduation recital. One day I saw her sitting again in front of our college, then I just remembered I havent prepared anything for my cast. I asked how much for each banana cue because I am planning to buy everything in her bilao for my cast. She smiled and thanked me. She was teary eyed because she was walking all day and she needs to sell everything before sunset because she needs to prepare dinner for her grandchildren. I cant help but ask why she is still working at her age. She feels responsible for her grandchildren because her children are jobless and they also depend on her. My heart broke. I told her she should stop working and let her children feed their own kids. It is time for her to enjoy life because it is no longer her call. She just nodded and said she was okay as long as her grandkids our not hungry she will be okay. I noticed it was already time for our rehearsal and then I said good bye to Lola Deling. I promised her I will buy again from her for my next rehearsal. Her story is really heart breaking. I just pray that by now her children wake up and start working for themselves and let Lola Deling rest. I pray that they realize that it is Lola Deling that should be taken care of not them. God bless you Lola Deling!
