Since so many are writing thanks to our vets, Ill take a minute to say thank you to my husband for 20 years of service in the Air Force, my brother-in-law, David Hagberg, father of Garrett Hagberg and Erick Hagberg, and for their service, my brother-in-law Dennis Hagberg, now deceased, who volunteered to stay in Vietnam a second year so my husband wouldnt have to go, my deceased father-in-law, Oscar A Hagberg who fought in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII, my deceased grandfather, John Lewis Walker who served during WWI, my uncles who served during WWII and Korea, but are too numerous to write since I still havent mentioned my brothers. 1. Ronold Odell, Navy 2. Harold Newton, Army 3. Gerold Wayne, Navy 4. David Vanderburg, the only older one who uses Facebook and whose middle name is Edward 5. Sam Vanderburg (Samuel Keith) 6. Tom Vanderburg (Thomas Doyle) (Btw, you wouldnt believe who all he was named after, including the initials, TD) My other brother, Paul, was 4-Fd as was our father, but they were proud to be brothers of men who served, and my dad was proud of his sons, too. My great-grandfather Walker was in the Civil War, his father (I think) and other greats in the war of 1812, and many greats served during the Revolution. We can even go further back and be proud of those who fought for King Richard III, aka Richard the Lion-Hearted and to Germany and France where our forefathers fought for their countries or those to whom they had sworn allegiance. Yes, Ive been working on Ancestry. And I had to look that word up! Anyway, it appears Im descended from and related to men who fought or were willing to fight for what they believed in. Im proud my family has fought for our country and the freedoms we share.
