Since we have launched the Boxoffice Meter and have predicted Akshay Kumar’s OUATIMD may cross 200 crore at the boxoffice, there is a big opposite voice of people. It is quite obvious that 200 crore is a huge amount and touching it is not an easy task as it seems. The comments from people are understandable & very much predictable too but we are again here to clear the things. We are here to tell what is the logic that made us say all this in front of you specially when no one is saying it. Lets start with why Chennai Express can’t cross the 200 crore mark Stars like Shahrukh Khan & Salman Khan have always been top contenders in the race to touch 200 crore mark - Reason No 1 - They bring few films per year Reason No 2- They release films on big holidays normally Call it unfortunate or testing that none of the star has touched 200 crore mark so far despite many movies of them expected of doing so. Shahrukh Khan’s Ra.One, Jab Tak Hai Jaan both were expected to do the trick but remained much lower despite holiday release & huge number of screens(I know people will say Jab Tak Hai Jaan had competition from Son Of Sardaar but it is hardly an issue when you are coming in your best genre & that too having most of the screen space). Salman Khan also couldn’t touch 200 crore despite all his films post Ready were expected to do so. Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger & Dabangg 2 couldn’t fulfil fan’s dreams. But Chennai Express has nothing to do with old track of Shahrukh Khan. He is looking awesome in film specially the one whom our Indian families will love to watch. Trailer has got thumbs up from all. Music has been week point but still the charm of movie is at its peak and is expected to have an excellent start this Eid. So what’s the reason that Chennai Express can’t join the giant 200 crore club? I’ll say the change in release strategy. The film had chances to touch the mark if the release date was not changed from 8th Aug to 9th Aug. Moving the release date one day ahead may cost heavy to makers who did it willingly to get holiday release. But they forgot the fact that if film was released on 8th Aug then it would’ve enjoyed four day weekend & 7 day week; which will remain now a 3 day normal weekend & 6 day week because Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara will release on Thursday 15th Aug. Some people are saying that the new strategy will help Chennai Express because if the movie gets good word of mouth it will multiply the collections in weekend(A Holiday attracts more audience than non holiday and good wom spreads on holiday more fastly). I think just opposite: 1. If the film was released on 8th Aug, holiday benefit on 9th would’ve been still there. The film could’ve enjoyed extra day as well as boost on Friday which would have worked even better for the movie with good WOM. 2. Have you ever thought why Chennai Express team requested Balaji to move their film one week ahead despite occupying most of the screens already? And again when they remained unsatisfied they moved to holiday release. Reason is simple because these type of actions are taken when you have less confidence on your product. Moreover, it must have been in mind of Chennai Express makers that movie will get most of its business from Eid Holiday. Now some people will say that CE makers wanted to play safe & fair thats why they requested Balaji to shift their movie. My question is where were these fair strategies when they booked all the single screens on the name of Himmatwala? Thing is clear & cut that the makers had very less confidence on product. I know some crazy fans may bombard me with lot of abuses after this but Friends! please give it a thought before saying anything. Prove me wrong with logic as abuses are not going not help. Now lets move to Why Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara may cross 200 crore mark OUATIMD will take less opening than Chennai Express because the genre is dark & less family friendly. But what’s the reason that OUATIMD will still do more lifetime business than its competitor Chennai Express? First of all Once Upon A Time.. is going to enjoy an extended 4 day weekend and obviously an extended week too. Furthur the movie has no big competition in second week. Madras Cafe will not affect the collections much and till the third week arrives when Satyagraha will release most of the job will be done. Yes! if Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara gets public appreciation like first part then it is going to shatter all records because there is nothing in the way to stop the movie. Change in the release plans of Chennai Express have just behaved in favor of movie. Some people will arise a question here that what if OUATIMD doesn’t gets proper screen space? I want to remind them the case of Son Of Sardaar which clashed with Jab Tak Hai Jaan with same screen space problem but got better screens in second week due to appreciation and came to do almost equal business. So the fact remains if OUATIMD gets public thumbs up then it will do 200 crore. Last but not the least if Ranbir Kapoor can surprise everybody with even non holiday release then why can’t Akshay Kumar on a holiday(The star has given 100 crore grossers & several Hits in non holiday period & IPL’s)
