Since were all new here I would like to introduce myself and give some background to the business. Im Aja, the owner of Spectrum Life Services. The business came from my own life with my son who has Aspergers and Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). Six and a half years ago he was diagnosed with SPD and last year with Aspergers. From the beginning I researched SPD like crazy! (Im a researcher at heart.) I began to instinctively changed my house around to best help my son and put things in place that utilize his strengths to help him function as independently as possible. As I was digging for answers, and began to get them, I was inundated with information overload. This led to feelings of overwhelm, not knowing where to turn, questions on how to figure it all out, how can I help my son and still work and we have a normal life...I could go on and on. I called non-profits in the arena seeking help and some helped a little and others provided more information but I could not find a path, a plan, someone who could tell me which therapies to prioritize, what medical professionals to seek for various reasons...someone to walk hand in hand with me. So, I figured it out, I tried hundreds of things, I kept what worked, got rid of what didnt, continued researching and still continue this cycle all the time (everything changes as he ages). My son and I are happy and thriving and his disorders dont rule our lives anymore; they are just a part of it. Time passed and I began to think I cant be the only parent looking for guidance, help, a person to walk the walk with me. I joined support groups and I hear it all the time...the need. I talked it over with an occupational therapist and she confirmed the need from what she knows and discusses with the parents in her practice. Ive had many ideas in my life and let them pass me by but this idea...was like a yearning in my spirit. People need guidance, help and support and I know where they are coming from. We are in the same club and I have the knowledge and experience and continue to gain more knowledge to help myself and other families in our community. If you are a parent of a child with ASD, SPD and/or ADD (ADHD) and are looking for guidance, youre in the right place! If you know someone in this boat, let them know about our page or if youre just here for support...THANK YOU! :) Thank you for letting me share with you.
