Since weve been on what ifs. What if Lincoln orders the evacuation of Ft Sumter. Major Anderson and his company sail away on the Star of the West. Confederates occupy the fort. 1. Virginia, North Carolina, Tennesssee , and Arkansas stay in the Union. 2. Lincoln calls for volunteers to put down the rebellion. Every state but the seven Confederate states responds. 3. Robert E Lee accepts command of the Federal forces. 4. Montgomery Alabama becomes the focal point of the war. The eastern theater never happens. 5. The massive Federal army operating from the rail junction at Chattannoga drives into Alabama. The badly outnumbered Confederate army under the command of PGT Beaurgard is overwhelmed. Montgomery falls. 6. The war ends in 1861 without the slavery issue being being resolved. This is how I see it would have played out. Lincoln holding onto Ft Sumter caused the upper south to succeed and prolonged that war for four years.
