Sir-Packs-Alot says: Generally Id recommend a 20 degree bag for folks starting a spring northbound. Of course nothing is absolute on OR off the trail though - so factor in 1) Are you a cold or hot sleeper ? 2) Is it a good name brand bag (those tend to be more accurate as to their temp rating-where some lesser known and less expensive brands may say 20 degree and really be 30 degree). 3) How early are you starting? I mostly use a 20 degree as a colder weather bag and a 30 degree bag as a warmer weather bag. 4) Weather trends: In 2010 and 2012 March days saw 70 degree highs in Georgia - whereas 2013 saw minus 20 degree nights. Its hard to be comfy in such a range. If it were me - Id go with moderately priced (good name brand) 20 degree bag - and if needed get the Sea to Summit Reactor liner to add extra warmth closer to my hike date if it looked like it were needed.
