Sista Hill*** Short excerpt She clenched her hands around her elbows as she walked, holding herself like she was the only person she had in the world. Her face was void of life and hopeless, like she had nothing to live for anymore. Her full lips were chapped and cracked like cold cement. Her jacket was a few sizes too small. Thick, dirty hair ran from under her dingy white skullcap. It looked as if it hadn’t been washed in weeks. Her shape was worn. Her breasts sagged down low under her sweater. Certain glimpses of her lead me to believe that at one point and time in her life, she was a very attractive woman, a woman that any man would kill to have. That helped jog my memory. I thought a while longer as she slowly stepped further and further away from me. It hit me when she walked across the street. It was Ebony Hill, but she was known to the church as Sista Hill; the woman who praised God with no remorse. She always sat a few pews behind my Granny. She was beautiful. Beautiful enough to make Samson cut his hair. I had a crush on her a few years back. That was the first time I had seen her in a little over a year. When I asked people at church about her, they wouldn’t say much, they would just tell me to pray for her. The last thing I expected to see was her strung out. The streets had gotten a hold of her and it looked as if she couldn’t loosen the grip. ***AMAZON REVIEW*** This book really had me hooked from page one. I was very into the emotional thought of a male struggling to find his faith. I also believe that the title poetry may make other readers think this book is full of poetry, but it is actually a narrative.
