Sitting here watching February One, a documentary about 4 young black men A & T University students who staged a sit -in at a Woolworths lunch counter in Greensboro, N.C in 1960 during a pivotal time of the Civil Rights Movement. They did not perform this act for prestige, they performed this act to break the barriers of racism and segregation. In 2002, a monument was placed on the Universitys campus in honor of those brave men act. I was deeply moved by this documentary however, it also showed how disconnected and cowardly most Blacks have become. You see all on FB and other social media sites many people speaking on stop the violence, camping out for solutions, doing rallies, etc but how many of those activists are willing to lose their life for the cause? How many are willing to die trying and fighting? 40-60 yrs people fought with fist, bats, etc. Now its guns period! Do you really know what youre up against, have you done the research or youre just watching the news, which is 100 truth O_o and basing it off that information?Im tired of people using Chicagos gun violence as a platform for political gain and prestige. This is nothing to play with. People especially our babies are dying daily. The Summers are becoming more bloody each year! And honestly the question must be asked is there anything that can be done? If were still hating each other and subconsciously and consciously the color of our skin, will the violence and hatred stop? Violence is a disease but it is not the root problem... The root of the issue is the MIND... The thought process of those that can pull a gun out and stop the heart beat of someone in broad daylight. Its the pain, rage, and ignorance of an individual. Im down for the cause! And I support those who I feel are really out to help those in need! I could careless whether or not you become Alderman, Mayor, Congressman, Senator, President, or any other man if youre not trying to implement change. You have to be about this life or sit down out of the spotlight! Those 4 young men were about that life and the 3 that are still living did not stop with Woolworths now they are Historians, Professors, etc. Thats what that life is about! One act changes nothing! Think tanks, progression, thought out solutions, money, and loyalty to the cause is what bring resolutions! So put your bullhorn down and pick up a pen while sitting among the wise and take notes of the progression they made which led to us being where we are today and how they went about doing such. It was more than rallies. Mayor Washington, Dr. King, Malcolm X and others, were not just walkers they were teachers and THINKERS! All of their approaches to the problems were different but they were EFFECTIVE! Its time to go back to the drawing board and rethink the process, then hit the streets, with a well thought out Plan of Action!
