*** Situation tense in Bandipora, police burst teargas shells to disperse protests at Sadirkut Bala *** Srinagar: Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse protestors demonstrating against the arrest of youths by police at Sadirkut Bala in north Kashmir district of Bandipora. Sources said that a large number of people, mostly youths, took to streets at Sadirkut Bala in Bandipora against the arrest of youths, on alleged charges of stone pelting in the recent demonstrations following the killing of a youth in police firing in Naidkhai. However, security forces and state police personnel deployed in the area, immediately swung into action and resorted to lathicharge to disperse them. Clashes between security forces were also reported at Hajan and Naidkhai in Bandipora late on Wednesday night after police arrested some youths on alleged charges of stone pelting. Though no organisation called for a strike, a complete shutdown was observed in some parts of Bandipora. Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Bandipora. Work was also affected in the offices due to strike. Clashes were also reported from other parts of the district. Curfew restrictions in parts of Bandipora were on Wednesday lifted after remaining in force for four days. Curfew was imposed in parts of north Kashmir, including Bandipora town, Hajin and Naikhai on March 15 after a youth Farhat Ahmad Dar was killed and three others were wounded in police firing on pro freedom demonstrators at Naidkahi on March 14. Meanwhile, the government on March 15 ordered magisterial inquiry into the incident and appointed Additional Deputy Commission, Bandipora, to investigate the incident. However, separatist organisation have rejected the inquiry and alleged that it was yet another attempt to shield those responsible for cold blood murder of a youth. Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Shalinder Kumar however, said magisterial inquiry was ordered since there were conflicting reports about the incident. He said one report said that police opened fire after violent mob tried to set on fire a police vehicle. However, another report said that it was a cold blood killing.
