Six high school students from Tolles’ Sports Turf & Landscape Management program recently competed against 800 college students from 62 of the nation’s top horticulture and landscape programs. The 37th annual ‘Student Career Days’, the National Collegiate Landscape Competition held at Auburn University, in Auburn, Alabama, is an opportunity for students to test their skills in real-world exercises based on the design, build and care of landscapes across the country. Tolles had the privilege of being the first and only high school program invited to compete against college students from traditional powerhouse schools including Kansas State, Brigham Young University and many Big Ten schools. The students participated in over a dozen competitions including skid steer operation, plant identification, maintenance cost estimating, and truck and trailer operation. The high school juniors who represented Tolles at the completion were Jess Maslar, Dublin Scioto; Jacob Hitch and Anthony Rossetti, Hilliard Darby; Jason Hara, Hilliard Davidson; Kyle Seimer and Hayden Hess, Jonathan Alder.
