Skea Rick Quick question for any one who might have answers on how to revive a dying union local. I went to a Labor Day parade which I (was) invited to participate in. There were 25 members from our local that marched, of which 7 were board members. I was just told today by a person (who) was at the monthly board member a question was asked to the leader of our group in the parade, so how did the turn out for the parade go? the response was Great we had 26 members attend. There are just under 900 active union members, & about 300 retirees. I appreciate all the effort our union brother put into trying to make the turn out work, but what do you say, or do with the rest of the union? We are in Code RED, & need help for survival of this local Esther Allman responded, You are not alone; we have similar turnouts for our MoveOn events. People lack the energy to do more than work at their jobs, even if they pay well and are unionized because everyone, it seems, is now being asked to do the work of three people, and they have NOTHING left at the end of the work day. As for the retirees, theyre either working at ENCORE jobs (I hate this title that makes it seem as if this option is frivolous instead of necessary), or they are providing free daycare for their grandchildren, so their sons and daughters can work to make ends meet. Sure, some prefer to sit in front of TVs rather than do anything that takes more effort, but for the most part, I think its all part of the plan to wear down voters to the point that they do NOT even vote to free themselves from this bondage because they figure it makes no difference whos in office, theyll end up getting screwed anyway, and sometimes they are RIGHT.
