Sketches from this week: Its a fascinating moment, to wake up in the ambulance, and slowly start to put together that Im in an ambulance, and horizontal, and most surely the reason for the ambulance is me. Making sure my fingers and toes all wiggle, I ask what day it is, whats happeneing ... Kyle the EMT was more curious to see how coherent the inside of my (mildly) bleeding head was, than in filling me in on the details of the scene. Im pretty sure your collar bone is broken - this much he shared. I wake up again in the ER, and within a couple of minutes my head clears. Its Friday, riding down Polk street from therapy on my way to meet with friends for a working afternoon, for no reason apparent on the outside (no car, no pedestrian, no bump in the pavement that I am aware of), I hit the pavement while riding my bicycle. Thanks to Laura and Sam who were first on site at the hospital, Lisaruth who brought me home and cleaned up the scratches which were too mild for the ER staff, Dennis and Tessa who also were nearby the first couple days of getting bearings, learning to shower, asking for help with eating and dishes. Clare and Jay for hospital re-visit escorting. H. R. and Pavini for flowers and loving. Thanks to all of you who offered to come by, feed me, asked whatever I may need. There were moments when even answering all the offers was more than I cold do which is a truly outstanding problem to have. Thanks to all of you wholl still come keep me company as this is not done yet, or take me out :) . Percocet haze and netflix is most of what filled the next few days, that and trying to sort out the medical follow up, which is now tomorrow. Ill be at UCSF at 10am to learn what happens next. Given my shoulder is basically collapsed, with right arm hanging 2 inches longer than the left - I am kind of hoping for the surgery where they pin my collar bone back together. Maybe next week another percocet haze awaits. Ive been a bit more active since yesterday morning, down to just ibuprofen, paying bllls and sorting through the day to day in between shavasanas and naps. Kind of restless, bored, aggravated at how some huge percentage of my functional activities are keyed to my literal dexterity ... right-handedness. And itll all pass: Patience, Taurus.
