Sleep, like nutrition and physical activity, is a critical determinant of health and well-being. Sleep is a basic requirement for infant, child, and adolescent growth, health and development. Sleep loss influences behavior and when we don’t get enough, it can negatively affect family health and our relationships. Fatigue and sleepiness can also mean we are less productive and increase our chances for mishaps like motor vehicle or industrial accidents.
