Slight chance of a morning shower, especially near and west of NYC. Otherwise mainly cloudy with breaks of sun throughout the day and highs in the low 70s. The next round of rain will come late night, and it could potentially be a real doozy. As the main cold front approaches the coast, a secondary surface low will develop, enhancing the main front. With a strengthening low level jet and good lifting dynamics, there will be the potential for localized severe weather with very strong wind gusts. Our window of severe will come at a terrible time, too, as it will be from around midnight through daybreak Wednesday. We clear out by mid morning Wednesday and temps will climb into the low to mid 70s. I also included the GFS 7 day temperature outlook for Islip. Some of those cool temps are associated with a stationary front that will move into the area Friday and sag south of us Saturday. Rain will come to an end by Saturday morning and we will see improving conditions, though there will be plenty of clouds around and a blustery chill.
