Slow Down, Drive Safely! State of Illinois Crash Data shows - TopicsExpress

Slow Down, Drive Safely! State of Illinois Crash Data shows that nearly 1,000 people were killed in Illinois in 2013. That’s nearly 3 people each day, every single day of the year. Speeding motorists play a large role in this sad reality. Main streets are often time the sites of these fatalities. People speed to save mere seconds from their drives only to put others and themselves at great risk. While we all want to enjoy being outdoors, whether it be walking on our block, biking on the local bike path, or driving to visit a friend, go the store, or attend church, we must be conscious of those who care little for their own or our safety. To discourage speeders two sites in the 10th Ward have been identified for speed cameras. One is along 95th Street between Ewing and the Calumet River. Local residents and business owners asked for this as accidents resulting from speeding motorists, especially those commuters travelling eastbound over the bridge, are way too common. The other is along the 96th block of Ewing. This road (US 41) is a main route for commuters going to and from downtown. Residents, St. George Church, Taylor School, and local day cares are those who suffer from speeders in this area. The significant guardrail along Ewing is a testament to the large number of speeders and regular crashes. With this in mind, all are encouraged to slow down. While violators are subject to monetary fines, more importantly, innocent people and property are subject to harm and even death. Please slow down!!
