Ben Affleck Was Initially Reluctant to Play Batman In an interview with 411 Mania (wait what?), Ben Affleck shared some thoughts about his upcoming gig playing the Dark Knight in Zack Snyders upcoming Man of Steel sequel that will probably be called Batman vs. Superman (or something like that). And, unsurprisingly, he had some hesitations. Affleck said: Initially I was reluctant as I felt I didnt fit the traditional mold but once Zack showed me the concept, and that it would be both different from the great movies that Chris and Christian made but still in keeping with tradition I was excited. Doing something different and new is always tricky and part of the thrill and the risk is that initially it confounds expectations. Obviously, Affleck is stepping into a very big, very empty cape and cowl, after Christopher Nolans recent Bat-trilogy that defied skeptics and became a critical and commercial juggernaut, expertly mixing the fantastic and the real world into a totally intoxicating package that was both believable and wonderfully comic book-y. Sidestepping issues, like Warner Bros. supposedly hiring in part as a way to line the Oscar-winning star to direct an eventual Justice League movie, Affleck continued: The truth is, its the movie and the execution of it is what all the actors depend on and I believe in Zacks vision. When quizzed about Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujiharas comments that Afflecks batman will be tired and weary, Affleck confirmed this interpretation but refused to reveal much else. I dont want to go further because I want to be able to capitalize on what is new about this iteration by having it be a surprise to the audience. Thanks for keeping it fresh, Ben! Batman vs. Superman (or whatever its going to be called) will hit theaters, along with every other movie ever, in the summer of 2015.
