Smalltown Egersund, Norway, celebrated 20th anniversary for Egersund Visefestival last year with artists like the world-famous Norwegian band I Was A King and singer/songwriter Tønes……and these artists, well-known to a broader audience: The Minus 5, The Baseball Project, Steve Wynn band, Peter Buck Experience, Robyn Hitchcock & Venus 3 ( 5 bands but 7 people only !!!) and The New Mendicants ( Norman Blake & Joe Pernice ) !!! And how was it? Just like Todos Santos Music Festival for those who have been there. Like Robyn puts it….”It’s an hotel with a festival in it…”. And for my account: The festival with the nicest people in Norway! ( Just like Todos ). 3 days where you can go to shows with your favorite bands, but also to the soundchecks ( David and I missed the one where they soundchecked one of my favorite Television songs ! ), have a chat with the guys, you meet them at the hotel, in the street or at the restaurant ( if you are able to get a seat, Bill Rieflin ). The shows were great and well received by the audience. And if you didn’t know, all rock bands should have 2 drummers ! And the best of it all…..The afterparty at Mocca Bar ! ( Outside which bar “Norgesvenn” Steve got his star in the Walk of Fame ). Robyn brings his acoustic guitar and plays own songs, Dylan and Bowie and other requests. Then the guitar is passed around to the other artists and soon you will be witnessing Joe Pernice perform a Steve Wynn song with the man himself sitting next to him, waiting for the guitar to be passed on. And it doesn’t stop until like 4:00 in the morning. Then it’s off to the harbor and listen to Einar Stenseng, Erlend Åsland and Stanley Brinks……and Robyn again! Part of this festival was captured in a 32 minutes long film by Donald Harry Milne and it might give you an idea of what it was like. Thanks a 1.000.000 to Mocca Bar, Roald & Frode and all the good people in Egersund. You know who you are. https://youtube/watch?v=FjNdIb-72tU&list=UUoL1cAIfWVfRgy0WwrN4jBg
