Smokey passed his CGC this morning!!!! Some of you might remember - TopicsExpress

Smokey passed his CGC this morning!!!! Some of you might remember that he failed two weeks ago for softly whining on the three minute out of sight. Well, my friend Dana helped me practice this week by holding Smokey while I went out of sight (never made it three minutes, but he could do two) and I also practiced at home leaving him on a down stay and going out of sight (perfect there). We determined that his biggest problem is boredom. Today at PDIA, it was a zoo, with herding, earth dog and another event all going on. Smokey started out being quiet in the building, but then other dogs started trying to play with him and each other. Then we had to be part of the milling crowd with dogs for three dogs doing the CGC Advanced title. Then we had to go out in the open yard with lots of loose dogs running around for the Star Spangled Banner. By this time, Smokey was so distracted that when I tried to practice a little before our turn, he wouldnt sit, down or do a recall. I almost went home! But, lo and behold, when he got into the test situation, Smokey became a gentleman, and did all the obedience parts of the test perfectly. Finally, time for the out of sight. I had planned to leave him on a down stay, as I had practiced at home, but the evaluator took him from me and spoke to him, so there he was, not on a stay. I waited that long three minutes until they called me back in. Geri, the evaluator, said he whined a little, but only intermittently and softly and would quiet back down quickly. So he passed! That is his third title (and the hardest for him to get!) this year. He finished his CH. in March and his JH in Feb.
