Smooth Haired Border Collie: Derived from a standard Rough Border - TopicsExpress

Smooth Haired Border Collie: Derived from a standard Rough Border Collie and Whippet. Whippet: Derived from rejected as too small Greyhounds. Whippets and Greyhounds are what are called Sight Hounds. They track by sight, not smell. Because whippets were originally bred for strong rabbit hunting traits, this behaviour has been passed on to modern Smooth Haired Border Collies. This explains her unique body. Very long legs, lean body, narrow waist and very deep chest. It explains her unique (for me anyway) interest in air planes. She often sits and watches them as they fly overhead. And it explains her insane response to rabbits. There is absolutely no controlling her around a rabbit (of which there are many wild in the neighbourhood. Topped off with the big head and big brain of Border Collie. And the wonderfully semi-floppy ears that make her look so goofy you cannot help but love her in a second. So she is smart, playful, wilful, fast, powerful, agile, beautiful, and sleek as sleek can be. If she wasnt so well behaved, she would be nearly uncatchable and probably uncontrollable. I can understand how these would be a challenge to keep for a normal urban family. They are not urban dogs.
