Smyth TriBeCa Hotel, New York, USA New York’s Smyth TriBeCa hotel has just emerged from a snazzy makeover. Part of the Thompson Hotels family, the property’s new looks are down to local outfit Gachot Studio- the same team behind Acme restaurant and The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club. Mixing elements of the nieghbourhood’s industrial past with its moneyed present, the hotel is an elegant, but cosy 14-storey haven that will suit both high-powered guests and leisure travellers alike. The lobby has been divided into Living Room, Library, Den and Evening Bar, each offering a different feel and adorned with art, books and photography from local hotspots like McNally Jackson Picture Room and Robin Rice gallery. Cocktails in the Evening Bar redefine the idea of ‘classic with a twist’. With mixologist Anne Robison (previously of PDT) at the helm, there is an emphasis on artisanal distilleries, fruit and vegetable extracts and the market principles of the hotels restaurant Little Park next door. Under chef Andrew Carmellinis watchful eye, the restaurant doles out seasonal, sustainable fare in a room that features whitewashed wood, Josef Hoffman chairs and Gustvino tiles, which guild many of New York Citys historical landmarks.
