Snapchat Rolls Out Geofilters for Everyone (#socialmedia info) Snapchat introduced Geofilters in July, but until now, only the app’s developers had access to the feature. The tool let them create overlays that would only show up for users in certain locations. “Recently, we’ve had more and more Snapchatters ask us to help them create their own Geofilters — for marriage proposals, favorite cities and even birthday parties!” read a blog post announcing the news. Now the tool will be available for for everyone, however, all artwork must be approved by Snapchat. Here’s what they’re looking for: Images should be 1080 px wide and 1920 px tall, with a 149 px buffer zone at the top and bottom of the image. PNG, Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop files are accepted. PNGs must be web-optimized and transparent; Adobe files must have a single layer. No borders allowed The site currently requires brands to sign in before using the feature. While it’s unclear how Snapchat plans to incorporate Geofilters into its monetization plans, the feature would certainly be a boon for brands targeting users in certain areas. The app has been stepping up its efforts to monetize recently with sponsored campaigns, advertising and a payments feature. Users can submit Geofilters here.
