"Snapshot of Encouragement The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible (Genesis 8:5). Scripture: Genesis 8:1-12 Song: “Trusting Jesus” Our son, Joshua, was born 11 weeks early. Though I was excited to see him, fear knotted my muscles. Would he survive? A few days later, Joshua lay on his side, a rubber glove hovering behind him. Every few seconds it inflated and thumped him on the back. I raised my eyebrows to the nurse. “Joshua’s breathing pattern is typical for premature babies. He takes a breath, waits, and forgets to breathe again, so his heart slows down. He’ll grow out of it.” I certainly hoped so! Later, a doctor introduced herself and said, “I have your son’s heart problem under control.” Heart problem? She left, and my body began trembling. O God, help! Next morning at church, I sidestepped to avoid a blond, blue-eyed youngster who whizzed past. I gasped. Joshua had the same coloring. Instantly, I imagined what he might look like as a healthy boy. That snapshot of encouragement buoyed me until we brought Joshua safely home. After the rain stopped, Noah and his family remained in the ark for nine months without sight of land. Had God forgotten them? No, just one glimpse of land gave them hope—they would be out of the ark soon. God of hope, I praise You! When everything around me looks bleak, give me the eyes of faith to wait for Your plan and Your timing. In Jesus’ name, amen."
