Sniper (aka Snipee) Up for Adoption. Snipee was adopted by us (UN personnel) in Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan in February 2012 when he was only three weeks old. Since then, he has been the mascot to us as well as to international friends including US soldiers who were based in this north-eastern province. Badakhshan is the remotest province, bordering Tajikistan, China and Pakistan and is very isolated. Under such circumstances, Snipee has given us great laughter and joy. Some US soldiers visited our compound only to play with him for leisure, and I am sure that such interaction gave them comfort and helped them overcome the strong sense of isolation. Unlike the capital Kabul, there is no entertainment in the province that keeps sprit of international staff high. Snipee is alert, smart, and good-natured. He makes a perfect watch-dog, while is also a good company to humans. He is slightly limping – we suspect this is because of hip dysplasia typical to big breeds (note: no professional vet in town, so this is based on my internet research); however, he is perfectly mobile and fast (particularly when food is involved). He is a beautiful mountain dog that loves eating, sleeping, and playing with us. To our regret, because of the rotation of staff, we have to leave the province, although there is no way that he follows us. As a temporary measure, he has been given away to one Afghan family. I have learned that he has been chained all day, which is terrible after being raised with lots of love from humans and freedom of movement within the compound. It is not a secret that the concept of keeping a dog in Afghanistan is very different from ours and I even fear that he may be made a fighting dog after his ears being chopped off. We all owe Snipee a lot of happiness and thus would like to see him enjoy fulfilling life in a good environment with a new, loving owner. Appreciate your kind consideration. Snipee needs a family. If you are that special family please email [email protected] This dog should be with a family familiar with large breed guardians. Snipee youcaring/nonprofits/snipee/67096
