Snow Command Update: The bulk of this storm has passed the Elgin area. Crews have been on the streets since 12am ensuring roads were passible during the morning commute. Our snow removal efforts are currently into a second shift and the focus for the next 12 hours will be to complete snow removal operations in full. An additional ½ to 3/4” of snow is going to continue to fall with an expected end time of 6pm. Both pavement and air temps are in our favor this afternoon. Salt applied will take effect immediately and mitigate the chance of the additional snow accumulations to bond to treated pavement. Residential pushback efforts will take place later in the afternoon once we have addressed single passes in each direction within each of our 23 routes. Please continue to keep vehicles off of the street whenever possible to allow staff full access to the curb lane. With forecast storms predicted both early next week and again through next weekend, it is an essential that we get streets open this evening.
