So - Zoes home. The situation is this - although were not positive, in all likelihood she probably had a stroke. I found out a couple things about her I hadnt known before - she has a heart murmur and deformed kidneys. Now for the good news. She has apparently had no cognitive damage. Shes bright and alert, and seems comfortable. As far as the ER staff could determine she has no pain. She still has the wobblies, though, and theres no real prognosis - at least right now - as to whether thats permanent or transitory. We will be visiting Dr. McSweeney on Monday and hell no doubt be monitoring her progress. Shes now on heart medication twice daily and potassium twice daily because her blood tests showed her with a lowered potassium level - which apparently can contribute to conditions like her wobblies. She is confined to the first floor and will be unless theres drastic improvement in the wobblies. She has staked out a new fave place - in front of the heat register in the dining room. So I padded it up with some soft old towels. She seems to like it there. She can watch the rest of us go about our biz. Every time I go by I stop and pet her. The dogs have been gently nudging her with their big old silly noses, like theyre glad to see her. So, all things considered, her quality of life involves being able to care for herself by eating, drinking and eliminating normally, sharing affection with her family and moving about with her new wobbly gait. Shes working at conquering it. So, folks, shes still with us. Who know for how long, but right now Ill take what I can get.
