So... Gang Vocals are my achilles heel... I just love them... Yesterday I got to track myself backing the band Im working on (big Mutt Lange fan.. can you tell?) and was surprised by just how beautiful the AKG C214 is. Really shimmered. For those that track Gang Vocals often, what are your tricks and techniques to make them full? How do you process them in your mix? I find stacking them in multiples of 8 until they sound nice and full (16 in the example below) and then some gentle subtractive eq to take out the rumble up to 200Hz, the mud around 500Hz and the peaky 2kHz that always seems to build up. Gentle compression (1dB GR) and then a nice Pultec styled EQ afterward pushing the air. Anybody use the Dolby SR? Always wanted to buy a pair for it!
