I have lived and worked in Southern Illinois for 33 years. I care deeply about the region and the hard-working people who call Southern Illinois home. I am a write-in candidate because I believe “we, the people,” need someone who will fight to lift up our people out of poverty and create a new economy based on caring and sharing the abundance that is produced. I stand on the values taught to me as a child; none of us are secure as long as one of us is homeless, hungry, and without the necessities of life. Prosperity, not Austerity! I will work to end “CORPORATE WELFARE,” putting the welfare of our working families first. Billions of dollars have been given away to corporations and their billionaire owners, yet working families are being forced to do with less. I will fight for a GREEN NEW DEAL that brings clean, green energy jobs to Southern Illinois. As corporations continue to shed “jobs” through automation and outsourcing, government has the responsibility to guarantee the general welfare of the people by providing socially necessary work at living wages. We need a “FAIR TAX” system that lowers taxes for people with lower incomes. Also, a FINANCIAL SPECULATION TAX on the billions of dollars traded daily in Chicago could be earmarked for the needs of our communities and working families.
