So I did a bit of research into World War 2 and was somewhat shocked to find that the Nazi Party was not the first successful German political group to take an anti-Semitic and racist political stance. Racism was common both in politics and normal society long before Hitler ever came to power. I couldnt help but draw a parallel between that and the One Nation Party here in Australia. Now granted, even with my extremely basic knowledge of international politics Im aware that racism isnt exclusive to Australian government. Im also aware that support for the One Nation Party has all but disappeared but nonetheless... My point is simply this: Its a slippery slope. Im disgusted by how socially acceptable racism and xenophobia is in Australian culture today. Weve got respected journalists and politicians spewing vitriolic hate speak and fear mongering, racist, propaganda openly in the media. Were putting immigrants (who have committed no crime) into detention centres indefinitely where there basic human rights are barely considered, let alone met. Where does it end? Where do we draw the line Australia? How far are you willing to go in an attempt to preserve our current way of life?
