So I didnt come home with any money last night, but that is OK, - TopicsExpress

So I didnt come home with any money last night, but that is OK, because Legacy was trying. Feel like Im riding a different horse this week, he has been entering the arena with his nose in the air, on the muscle, and just wanting to take the bit and run. You could tell when he goes from being broke horse, to crazy barrel horse and not wanting to listen to me at all. We entered the arena last night cool and collected and in my hand. I had been riding him like a finished seasoned rodeo horse and just because we have won a handful of rodeos does not mean he is seasoned. I was tip toeing around him because of his recent injuries and scared it would happen again. I had to take a step back and re analyze myself. I went back to riding him like I used to pre injuries, what needs to be fixed on the pattern can often be fixed in slow dry work off the pattern. I used to not pick everything and go back to the pattern and back to the pattern until that was all I was ever doing with him. I have changed my attitude and and went back to basics, doing a lot of off pattern work. Yes he can win rodeos and it is hard not to focus on just that winning, but you got to ride your horse for the house he is that day not the horse he could be. If your worried about wasting money then stay home, that just part of it. So no I didnt bring a check home but we did learn and take an experience from it. (Running directly at the bulls in the chutes with second only two strides off them, or running at first with a blinding light in your face and next to a cement wall) it was a learning experience and he was trying and listening. Some times a change in attitude is all you need to see the path ahead of you! Was proud of my horse and am ready to run at another tonight. Remember you get out of it what you put into it! :-)
