So I dont feel like cooking tonight, get on my bike and rode down - TopicsExpress

So I dont feel like cooking tonight, get on my bike and rode down to Chinatown and back to Waikiki, about an hour and still couldnt figure what I wanted. Ended up at Dennys as I sometimes like to go there. Ordered the fish and chips, though the waiter had a little problem with speaking and understanding me. I ordered a salad to go with it and my side was dipping veggies. Salad was great, then the side I ordered comes. Was very nice. Now Im sitting at the counter as I usually do and I watch the cooks put a plate under the salamander to keep the food warm. Then I see one of the cooks take the plate, look at the screen on his side and toss the fries that were on the plate. At this point I didnt know if this was my meal or not, but seeing as there werent but a half a dozen diners in the restaurant and most had their food already, I was pretty certain this was my order of fish and chips, sans the chips. The waiter with the language problem puts the plate in front of me, after it was sitting under the warmer for close to five minutes, yes I timed it. The manager was near by just after I had check the menu to make sure that I had read it right and that my reading comprehension wasnt slipping with the onset of old age, yes it comes with fries. I asked her to read it and asked her what the meal comes with and see read it out loud to me, then I asked her what was missing from my plate, besides the one or two bites of fish I already had. She said the fries, give the girl a prize! The waiter was there by this time and he tries to say I ordered double the dipping veggies, I told him I didnt and that You must have misunderstood me., which comes to the point of this little book Im writing here. Im finding out that I have to be very careful, speak slowly and make sure that Im understood while I speak ENGLISH here in AMERICA!! Was still a good meal even with out the fries, but fish and chips just isnt the same without the chips. Now this is how I know Im getting old, in my younger days I would have had that manager buying me that meal and the next one when I came back in, but just like a fine wine I must be mellowing with age and I still left the waiter a good tip, after all he might be going to night school to improve his English.
