So, I figured I might as well let everyone know so that Im not constantly asking myself Have I told this person? whenever I run into friends and acquaintances. After some serious soul-searching and meaningful reflection I have decided to withdraw from the Master of Arts in Teaching program. I know this may come as a shock to some, but I must say that it is a decision that I am glad to have made. As many of my classmates already know, finding a placement in the public schools for my practicum this year was quite fraught with time-consuming setbacks and unique compensatory measures; as such, it left me with a great deal of time during which I pretty much stayed at home, not working, not studying or observing, but trying to figure out the details of my practicum. However, I also had to face some truths about how I truly felt about becoming a teacher and how this career goal was actually running counter to my hearts true desire to work with foreign language in an applied way. Thanks to the sound counsel of my family and to finally hearing what my intuition has been whispering insistently to me for the past year, I admitted that I want to pursue a career in translation and interpretation. It is my true dream career and I want to make it happen—I will make it happen. To all of my classmates, professors, friends, and family, I thank you for all of your support and encouragement while I was on my path to becoming an educator. I am very grateful and am happy to have met all the lovely personalities in my classmates this past year. Im sure it wont be the last time I run into you and I definitely still want to hear all about your endeavors as your exciting year progresses. As for me, Ive got my work cut out for me looking for programs to apply to, but I will keep you updated when appropriate. Thank you again and heres to following your dreams! Cheers! :)
