So, I find this very disturbing (full disclosure: I saw the film at a closed screening at HBO a few months back, expressed my concerns, found the executives present completely uninterested in them). The guy filmed antigay vigilantes torture a victim. He says he felt that by keeping the camera on he was preventing worse violence. This, however, is speculative; what we do know is that he made contact with these guys before they lured their victim in and what they did, they did, at least in that particular case, for the camera. I cant see a way to arguing that this is ethical. Secondary issue: the film, at least in the original BBC narration, makes the campaign of antigay violence seem like a grass-roots phenomenon rather than something instigated by the government. Discuss.
