So, I got real chummy with Heather at 24 PetWatch this morning when I called to register Zeldas microchip(s). Turns out, they have some really cool promotions/programs for owners. Right now, you can pay for a lifetime registration for $60 instead of the yearly $20, but you can only do it over the phone. Naturally, I opted for that for Zelda since I should have 10-12 years with her. Also, they have an insurance program for $19 per pet, per year. The insurance covers life-saving medical costs up to $3000 if your pet is found injured by a Good Samaritan and they take it to a vet. When 24 PetWatch is called, they will immediately authorize treatment and provide payment to the veterinarian. Even with multiple pets, thats a small price to pay each year for peace of mind that if something awful happens and youre out of town or unreachable and the finder cant or wont pay for the medical costs to save your pets life. Working at an emergency vet clinic has shown me countless times the frustration of having a pet that needs urgent medical care, but the finders cant afford the care and the owners are unknown. Needless to say, all my pets now have their lifetime registrations, as well as emergency care insurance. I hope this info is helpful for some of you :)
