So I had a massive arguement with the guys running the hostel I stayed at in Amsterdam today. Basically, they took my boots out from under the bed I was in when I was asleep and they were cleaning the room and put them in lost and found without actually consulting anyone whose boots they were (Clearly mine), when I left I didnt realise they were missing. I realised at about 4 this arvo and went to ask him about them. First thing he did was tell me they were probably in the bin and that it was my fault. Then I asked if he could check the lost and found. He says yes and then accuses me of accusing them of theft out of nowhere. Then the cleaner turns up from home with a bag with my boots in it. The guy I was dealing with was the owner, and yet the cleaner is apparently the only one with access to the lost and found. My faith waivers somewhat. Id generally believe it, but it was all too weird and the owner kept calling me bro and rubbing me the wrong way. If Id genuinely lost them (which doesnt seem unlikely at this point) Id call it a fair loss and be done, but being accused of basically throwing my own boots away to make the hostel look bad is a bit much. This coming from a hostel which, when I arrived at 10pm 3 nights ago, put me in a room that was already completely full and insisted that I get in the bed that was empty (everyone in the room I was drinking with was adamant there was someone in it) with dirty sheets and then make the bed myself. The guy comes back at 1 in the morning and I got told to tell him to go downstairs and see the reception. They left me where I was and kicked this poor bastard out of his bed with no notice and sent him elsewhere. Moral of the story- dont trust hostel owners or people that call you bro all the time, or swear on the mothers lives. Theyre generally useless and shifty as hell. I got my boots back by the way, and am now sitting at the train station for a 10 hour trip to Hamburg. Dont book the cheap tickets kids, I have a 5 hour stopover in a train station no one has even heard of before...
