So I have a question about John 8: 31-59. In verse 31 Jesus is talking with the Jews who had believed Him. John 8:31-32 31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” Then later in the same discourse with those same Jews He says the following: John 8:44-45 44 “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 “But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. So how is it that they believed Him and yet He says they dont believe Him? In the previous passages Jesus clearly states that unless they believe in Him they would die in their sins, verse 30 says that as He spoke these things many came to believe in Him. These are the ones He is addressing in verse 31, those who came to believe in Him. So what gives? Read through this passage many times before and never noticed this until now. I have my own thoughts, but am curious as to what others think.
