So, I have been nominated for this ice bucket challenge thing by Steve Thornton who claims to be my very good friend. Hrrumph! He is a renegade Southerner whose only saving grace is that he now lives in the North with a Yorkshire lass, albeit in Goole. You cant have everything. He does play ukulele though. Maybe hes not so bad after all Anyway, I wont be doing it for the following reasons. Irrefutable, I think: 1 Ice belongs in the polar caps and not in a bucket. At least not in one larger than necessary to service the occasional gin and tonic. For medicinal reasons, obviously. 2 Over exposure to water is weakening. And my bath is not due for another week. 3 Anything endorsed by George W Bush must be intrinsically suspect in nature. I shall however, donate some money to Ukuleles for Peace, which aims to bring the Arab and Israeli children in the Middle East together with a common interest and hopefully show them that they are not really so different as they may have been led to believe by their elders. You may care to have a look at what they do. And no ice bucket nominations from me. However, I will challenge everyone reading this, if you do not already, to give blood. Go to NHS Blood Donation for details. If, for any reason you cannot, then please make it your duty to encourage those around you who can, to do so. Its only a pint. Not nearly a bucketful. Possibly an arm full though.
