So, I have been wondering if I would run across anything - TopicsExpress

So, I have been wondering if I would run across anything authentically historic Virginian in our neck of the woods. We live in rural SW Richmond in Chesterfield County. There is certainly the feel and the ambiance of the Civil War around...from the standpoint of rivers and forests and open fields. We know that the largest battle of the War was fought just a few miles from where we live. We know our two acres is a part of a major farm that was sub divided and sold off around 12 years ago. Well, this evening I decided to take a walk to an old farmhouse about 1/2 mile away from us. I have walked down the long lane a couple times, but both times felt a bit uncomfortable walking back there since I had not met the owners. Lo and behold, as I walked down the lane this time there was a man and a woman on the front porch. The closer I got, it was easy to see that they were both up in years and were protected by a noisy beagle. Long story short...I had the wonderful privilege to meet Jack and Josie. Jacks family has lived in this very house since the 1700s. He inherited the farm when his father passed away. Our two acres were a part of the orginal mother farm. Jack said his great grandmother sat exactly where we were sitting on his porch and watched General Lee and his troops march by. Theres more. He said they have one of the largest family-owned grave yards in the State. He is a devout Methodist and attends a Methodist church that his family were original members of back in the early 1800s. It sure seemed like we began a good friendship. I am looking forward to hearing more and seeing more! What fun. I feel like I hit true pay dirt! Will tell you more when I know more!
