So I have some people ask me behind the scene about what is going on with the school BST. I have been battling with the school since about day 1 stating the curriculum was not up to par. As most of you know the school received an F grading the 1st year out. It was told by administration that is because it was 1st year and we had the middle school, well I am here to say very untrue. If you look at Fla dept education per grade level report you will see the school would have failed anyway without these factors. Last year not even half of 3rd grade passed the Fcats. The blame was placed on the teachers by administration. I have heard administration directly say "they had to weed out the bad ones". Well....That did not exactly happen. We lost very good teachers last year!! Then a "New plan" was set up for this year. How has that worked you ask? Not so well considering one entire 4th grade class did not have grades for the 1st nine weeks. Again the blame was placed on the teacher and she was fired. Per Fla state statue the administration is required to do teacher evaluations 4 for fewer than 3yr teachers at a school. Well I am here to tell you they were never done!! At last board meeting it was brought out that some teachers had never had evaluations at all during the year. The administration stated at the board meeting they did not have to do in classroom evals, and the board believed them. It does not take much to pick up the phone and contact the county of Volusia and ask the questions needed to know. Well I have and the answer is the administration lied to the board stating they did not have to do in classroom evals. So the blame was put on teachers we have a lot of new teachers and no one was even checking to make sure children were receiving proper education. DOES THAT SOUND LIKE AN ADMINISTRATION THAT CARES ABOUT OUR CHILDREN? Again we are now receiving very poor FCAT scores. The board has allowed administration to say they have a new plan….WELL…. That is not good enough for me or many other parents. This administration has failed us 2 years in row they should not receive a 3rd chance to put our children even further behind!! The teachers have been held accountable, but No administration has been. IT IS TIME FOR A NEW ADMINISTRATION at BST for our children to thrive.
